The opening weekend of the 2024 college football season has been both eventful and lengthy, with teams nationwide making their debut. However, there's still one final game to play today, featuring a crucial matchup between ACC teams.
Florida State, the preseason favorite to win the ACC championship and secure the league's automatic College Football Playoff berth, heads into Monday night's game against Boston College after already suffering a loss to unranked Georgia Tech.
As a result, the Seminoles are likely to drop from their No. 10 spot in the AP Top 25 college football rankings when they are released on Tuesday afternoon. However, they have the opportunity to mitigate a steeper fall in the polls if they deliver a strong performance in their home opener today.
Thomas Castellanos will test Florida State's defense. The dual-threat quarterback for Boston College passed for 2,248 yards and rushed for 1,113 yards last season. Under new Eagles head coach Bill O'Brien, who is making his debut, Castellanos is expected to maintain or exceed those numbers.
O'Brien, who has experience on Bill Belichick's NFL staff, takes over a team with a quarterback who threw for 350 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 95 yards and another score, in a narrow 2-point loss to Florida State in last year's matchup.
